           "Hemustbeasmadasahatter,"exclaimedtheColonel.

           "Irememberbeforeweweremarriedheusedtopotteraboutwithapaint-box.Butyouneversawsuchdaubs.Weusedtochaffhim.Hehadabsolutelynogiftforanythinglikethat."

           "Ofcourseit’sonlyanexcuse,"saidMrs.MacAndrew.
