           Hereliestheunrealityoffiction.Forinmen,asarule,loveisbutanepisodewhichtakesitsplaceamongtheotheraffairsoftheday,andtheemphasislaidonitinnovelsgivesitanimportancewhichisuntruetolife.Therearefewmentowhomitisthemostimportantthingintheworld,andtheyarenotveryinterestingones;evenwomen,withwhomthesubjectisofparamountinterest,haveacontemptforthem.Theyareflatteredandexcitedbythem,buthaveanuneasyfeelingthattheyarepoorcreatures.Butevenduringthebriefintervalsinwhichtheyareinlove,mendootherthingswhichdistracttheirmind;thetradesbywhichtheyearntheirlivingengagetheirattention;theyareabsorbedinsport;theycaninterestthemselvesinart.Forthemostpart,theykeeptheirvariousactivitiesinvariouscompartments,andtheycanpursueonetothetemporaryexclusionoftheother.Theyhaveafacultyofconcentrationonthatwhichoccupiesthematthemoment,anditirksthemifoneencroachesontheother.Aslovers,thedifferencebetweenmenandwomenisthatwomencanlovealldaylong,butmenonlyattimes.
