           Butperhapsthisisveryfanciful;anditmaybethatshewasmerelyboredwithherhusbandandwenttoStricklandoutofacallouscuriosity.Shemayhavehadnoparticularfeelingforhim,butsuccumbedtohiswishfrompropinquityoridleness,tofindthenthatshewaspowerlessinasnareofherowncontriving.HowdidIknowwhatwerethethoughtsandemotionsbehindthatplacidbrowandthosecoolgrayeyes?
