           Marillawasthinkingofherwholepastlife,hercrampedbutnotunhappychildhood,thejealouslyhiddendreamsandtheblightedhopesofhergirlhood,thelong,gray,narrow,monotonousyearsofdullmiddlelifethatfollowed.AndthecomingofAnnethevivid,imaginative,impetuouschildwithherheartoflove,andherworldoffancy,bringingwithhercolorandwarmthandradiance,untilthewildernessofexistencehadblossomedliketherose.MarillafeltthatoutofhersixtyyearsshehadlivedonlytheninethathadfollowedtheadventofAnne.AndAnnewouldbehometomorrownight.
