Ithasinitsparkamartellotower,autographedalloverbytourists,adismantledoldFrenchfortonthehillsbeyondthetown,andseveralantiquatedcannoninitspublicsquares.Ithasotherhistoricspotsalso,whichmaybehuntedoutbythecurious,andnoneismorequaintanddelightfulthanOldSt.John’sCemeteryattheverycoreofthetown,withstreetsofquiet,old-timehousesontwosides,andbusy,bustling,modernthoroughfaresontheothers.EverycitizenofKingsportfeelsathrillofpossessiveprideinOldSt.John’s,for,ifhebeofanypretensionsatall,hehasanancestorburiedthere,withaqueer,crookedslabathishead,orelsesprawlingprotectivelyoverthegrave,onwhichallthemainfactsofhishistoryarerecorded.Forthemostpartnogreatartorskillwaslavishedonthoseoldtombstones.
