Mine,whichweenteredfirst,wasofthiskind,withanup-and-downroofthathadmorecornersinitthanIevercountedafterwardsandachimney(therewasawoodfireonthehearth)pavedallaroundwithpurewhitetiles,ineveryoneofwhichabrightminiatureofthefirewasblazing.Outofthisroom,youwentdowntwostepsintoacharminglittlesitting-roomlookingdownuponaflower-garden,whichroomwashenceforthtobelongtoAdaandme.OutofthisyouwentupthreestepsintoAda’sbedroom,whichhadafinebroadwindowcommandingabeautifulview(wesawagreatexpanseofdarknesslyingunderneaththestars),towhichtherewasahollowwindow-seat,inwhich,withaspring-lock,threedearAdasmighthavebeenlostatonce.Outofthisroomyoupassedintoalittlegallery,withwhichtheotherbestrooms(onlytwo)communicated,andso,byalittlestaircaseofshallowstepswithanumberofcornerstairsinit,consideringitslength,downintothehall.ButifinsteadofgoingoutatAda’sdooryoucamebackintomyroom,andwentoutatthedoorbywhichyouhadenteredit,andturnedupafewcrookedstepsthatbranchedoffinanunexpectedmannerfromthestairs,youlostyourselfinpassages,withmanglesinthem,andthree-corneredtables,andanativeHinduchair,whichwasalsoasofa,abox,andabedstead,andlookedineveryformsomethingbetweenabambooskeletonandagreatbird-cage,andhadbeenbroughtfromIndianobodyknewbywhomorwhen.
