Ithenentreatedthesontosparethefourthwife,andaftermuchhesitation,myprayerwasgranted;butinhalf-an-hourafterwardsthispoorwomanrepentedofbeingunfaithful,asshetermedit,toherhusband,andinsistedonbeingstrangled,whichwasaccordinglydone.
"Allthistimethechief’ssonwaswalkingupanddownbeforehisfather’shousewithabrowblackasthunder.WhenheenteredIwentinwithhim,andfound,tomysurprise,thathisfatherwasnotdead!Theoldmanwassittingonamatinacorner,withanexpressionofplacidresignationonhisface.
"‘Why,’saidI,‘haveyoustrangledyourfather’swivesbeforeheisdead?’
"Tothisthesonreplied,‘Heisdead.Thatisnolongermyfather.Heisasgoodasdeadnow.Heistobeburiedalive.’
