Fortunatelyavigorouseffortdrovethewagontowardtheoppositeshore,andthebankbegantoslopeupward,sothatthehorsesandbullockswereabletoregaintheirfooting,andsoonthewholepartyfoundthemselvesontheotherside,gladenough,thoughwetenoughtoo.
Theforepartofthewagon,however,wasbrokenbythejolt,andGlenarvan’shorsehadlostashoe.
Thiswasanaccidentthatneededtobepromptlyrepaired.Theylookedateachotherhardlyknowingwhattodo,tillAyrtonproposedheshouldgotoBlackPointStation,twentymilesfurthernorth,andbringbackablacksmithwithhim.
