           Whatresultsmightnotcomeoutofthisjourney.ThepresenceofHarryGranthadbecomeanindisputablefact,andthechancesoffindinghimhadincreased.Notthatanyoneexpectedtodiscoverthecaptainexactlyonthe37thparallel,whichtheyintendedstrictlytofollow,buttheymightcomeuponhistrack,andatallevents,theyweregoingtotheactualspotwherethewreckhadoccurred.Thatwastheprincipalpoint.

           Besides,ifAyrtonconsentedtojointhemandactastheirguidethroughtheforestsoftheprovinceofVictoriaandrighttotheeasterncoast,theywouldhaveafreshchanceofsuccess.Glenarvanwassensibleofthis,andaskedhishostwhetherhewouldhaveanygreatobjectiontohisaskingAyrtontoaccompanythem,forhefeltparticularlydesirousofsecuringtheassistanceofHarryGrant’soldcompanion.
