Therearecircumstancesinwhichmenarepowerless,whentheunchainedelementscanonlybecombatedbyotherelements.Glenarvangazedwithhaggardlooksatthefireandwaterleaguedagainsthim,hardlyknowingwhatdeliverancetoimplorefromHeaven.
Theviolenceofthestormhadabated,butithaddevelopedintheatmosphereaconsiderablequantityofvapors,towhichelectricitywasabouttocommunicateimmenseforce.Anenormouswater-spoutwasgraduallyforminginthesouth—aconeofthickmists,butwiththepointatthebottom,andbaseatthetop,linkingtogethertheturbulentwaterandtheangryclouds.Thismeteorsoonbegantomoveforward,turningoverandoveronitselfwithdizzyrapidity,andsweepingupintoitscenteracolumnofwaterfromthelake,whileitsgyratorymotionsmadeallthesurroundingcurrentsofairrushtowardit.
Afewsecondsmore,andthegiganticwater-spoutthrewitselfontheOMBU,andcaughtitupinitswhirl.Thetreeshooktoitsroots
