           Andnowhisbandagedcrywas,tobeachhimonthewhale’stopmostback.Nothingloath,hisbowsmanhauledhimupandup,throughablindingfoamthatblenttwowhitenessestogether;tillofasuddentheboatstruckasagainstasunkenledge,andkeelingover,spilledoutthestandingmate.Thatinstant,ashefellonthewhale’sslipperyback,theboatrighted,andwasdashedasidebytheswell,whileRadneywastossedoverintothesea,ontheotherflankofthewhale.Hestruckoutthroughthespray,and,foraninstant,wasdimlyseenthroughthatveil,wildlyseekingtoremovehimselffromtheeyeofMobyDick.Butthewhalerushedroundinasuddenmaelstrom;seizedtheswimmerbetweenhisjaws;andrearinghighupwithhim,plungedheadlongagain,andwentdown.

           "Meantime,atthefirsttapoftheboat’sbottom,theLakemanhadslackenedtheline,soastodropasternfromthewhirlpool;calmlylookingon,liethoughthisownthoughts.Butasudden,terrific,downwardjerkingoftheboat,quicklybroughthisknifetotheline.Hecutit;andthewhalewasfree.But,atsomedistance,MobyDickroseagain,withsometattersofRadney’sredwoolenshirt,caughtintheteeththathaddestroyedhim.Allfourboatsgavechaseagain;butthewhaleeludedthem,andfinallywhollydisappeared.
