           JackandPeterkinraisedtheiroars,while,withafeelingofmadnesswhirlinginmybrain,Igraspedmypaddleandpreparedfortheonset.Butbeforeanyofuscouldstrikeablow,thesharpprowofthewar-canoestruckuslikeathunderboltonthesideandhurledusintothesea!

           Whilewewerebeingledashore,wecaughtaglimpseofAvatea,whowasseatedinthehinderpartofthecanoe.Shewasnotfetteredinanyway.
