PenguinIslandlayontheothersideofourownisland,ataboutamilebeyondtheouterreef,andwecalculatedthatitmustbeatleasttwentymilesdistantbythewayweshouldhavetogo.Wemight,indeed,haveshortenedthewaybycoastingroundourislandinsideofthelagoon,andgoingoutatthepassageinthereefnearlyoppositetoPenguinIsland;butwepreferredtogobytheopensea—first,becauseitwasmoreadventurous,andsecondly,becauseweshouldhavethepleasureofagainfeelingthemotionofthedeep,whichwealllovedverymuch,notbeingliabletosea-sickness.
