AsforMerrylegs,heandIsoonbecamegreatfriends;hewassuchacheerful,plucky,good-temperedlittlefellowthathewasafavoritewitheveryone,andespeciallywithMissJessieandFlora,whousedtoridehimaboutintheorchard,andhavefinegameswithhimandtheirlittledogFrisky.
Ourmasterhadtwootherhorsesthatstoodinanotherstable.OnewasJustice,aroancob,usedforridingorfortheluggagecart;theotherwasanoldbrownhunter,namedSirOliver;hewaspastworknow,butwasagreatfavoritewiththemaster,whogavehimtherunofthepark;hesometimesdidalittlelightcartingontheestate,orcarriedoneoftheyoungladieswhentheyrodeoutwiththeirfather,forhewasverygentleandcouldbetrustedwithachildaswellasMerrylegs
