           ThiswasnewreasoningforHurstwood.Intheolddaystheworldhadseemedtobegettingalongwellenough.Hehadbeenwonttoseesimilarthingsinthe“DailyNews,”inChicago,buttheydidnotholdhisattention.Now,thesethingswerelikegreycloudshoveringalongthehorizonofaclearday.Theythreatenedtocoverandobscurehislifewithchillygreyness.Hetriedtoshakethemoff,toforgetandbraceup.Sometimeshesaidtohimself,mentally:
