pleasantasthespring,comfortableasthesummer,fruitfulasautumn,dreadfulaswinter:hismostsublimemajestyproposestotheman-mountain,latelyarrivedatourcelestialdominions,thefollowingarticles,which,byasolemnoath,heshallbeobligedtoperform:—
"1st,Theman-mountainshallnotdepartfromourdominions,withoutourlicenseunderourgreatseal.
"2d,Heshallnotpresumetocomeintoourmetropolis,withoutourexpressorder;atwhichtime,theinhabitantsshallhavetwohourswarningtokeepwithindoors.
"3d,Thesaidman-mountainshallconfinehiswalkstoourprincipalhighroads,andnotoffertowalk,orliedown,inameadoworfieldofcorn.
"4th,Ashewalksthesaidroads,heshalltaketheutmostcarenottotrampleuponthebodiesofanyofourlovingsubjects,theirhorses,orcarriages,nortakeanyofoursubjectsintohishandswithouttheirownconsent.
"5th,Ifanexpressrequiresextraordinarydespatch,theman-mountainshallbeobligedtocarry,inhispocket,themessengerandhorseasixdaysjourney,onceineverymoon,andreturnthesaidmessengerback(ifsorequired)safetoourimperialpresence.
"6th,HeshallbeourallyagainstourenemiesintheislandofBlefuscu,anddohisutmosttodestroytheirfleet,whichisnowpreparingtoinvadeus.
"7th,Thatthesaidman-mountainshall,athistimesofleisure,beaidingandassistingtoourworkmen,inhelpingtoraisecertaingreatstones,towardscoveringthewalloftheprincipalpark,andotherourroyalbuildings.
