           Iamthin,so,withhisaid,Igotout,butfeetforemost,andaswewereonlyafewfeetabovegroundlandedunhurt. 

           Theattendanttoldmethepatienthadgonetotheleft,andhadtakenastraightline,soIranasquicklyasIcould. AsIgotthroughthebeltoftreesIsawawhitefigurescalethehighwallwhichseparatesourgroundsfromthoseofthedesertedhouse. 

           Iranbackatonce,toldthewatchmantogetthreeorfourmenimmediatelyandfollowmeintothegroundsofCarfax,incaseourfriendmightbedangerous. Igotaladdermyself,andcrossingthewall,droppeddownontheotherside.IcouldseeRenfield’sfigurejustdisappearingbehindtheangleofthehouse,soIranafterhim. OnthefarsideofthehouseIfoundhimpressedcloseagainsttheoldiron-boundoakdoorofthechapel.
