IsoonfoundoutthatMrs.Gummidgedidnotalwaysmakeherselfsoagreeableasshemighthavebeenexpectedtodo,underthecircumstancesofherresidencewithMr.Peggotty.Mrs.Gummidge’swasratherafretfuldisposition,andshewhimperedmoresometimesthanwascomfortableforotherpartiesinsosmallanestablishment.Iwasverysorryforher;butthereweremomentswhenitwouldhavebeenmoreagreeable,Ithought,ifMrs.Gummidgehadhadaconvenientapartmentofherowntoretireto,andhadstoppedthereuntilherspiritsrevived.
Mr.Peggottywentoccasionallytoapublic-housecalledTheWillingMind.Idiscoveredthis,byhisbeingoutonthesecondorthirdeveningofourvisit,andbyMrs.
