Ifeltsomecuriosityandexcitementaboutthislady,especiallyasSteerforthburstintoafitoflaughingwhenIreferredtoher,andpositivelyrefusedtoansweranyquestionofwhichImadeherthesubject.Iremained,therefore,inastateofconsiderableexpectationuntiltheclothhadbeenremovedsomehalfanhour,andweweresittingoverourdecanterofwinebeforethefire,whenthedooropened,andLittimer,withhishabitualserenityquiteundisturbed,announced:
