AllthisIsawinthefirstglanceafterIcrossedthethreshold—child-like,accordingtomytheory—andthenPeggottyopenedalittledoorandshowedmemybedroom.Itwasthecompletestandmostdesirablebedroomeverseen—inthesternofthevessel;withalittlewindow,wheretherudderusedtogothrough;alittlelooking-glass,justtherightheightforme,nailedagainstthewall,andframedwithoyster-shells;alittlebed,whichtherewasjustroomenoughtogetinto;andanosegayofseaweedinabluemugonthetable.Thewallswerewhitewashedaswhiteasmilk,andthepatchworkcounterpanemademyeyesquiteachewithitsbrightness.OnethingIparticularlynoticedinthisdelightfulhouse,wasthesmelloffish;whichwassosearching,thatwhenItookoutmypocket-handkerchieftowipemynose,Ifounditsmeltexactlyasifithadwrappedupalobster.
