           WhileIadvancedinfriendshipandintimacywithMr.Dick,Ididnotgobackwardinthefavourofhisstaunchfriend,myaunt.Shetooksokindlytome,that,inthecourseofafewweeks,sheshortenedmyadoptednameofTrotwoodintoTrot;andevenencouragedmetohope,thatifIwentonasIhadbegun,ImighttakeequalrankinheraffectionswithmysisterBetseyTrotwood.

           ‘Trot,’saidmyauntoneevening,whenthebackgammon-boardwasplacedasusualforherselfandMr.Dick,‘wemustnotforgetyoureducation.’

           Thiswasmyonlysubjectofanxiety,andIfeltquitedelightedbyherreferringtoit.

           ‘ShouldyouliketogotoschoolatCanterbury?’saidmyaunt.

           IrepliedthatIshouldlikeitverymuch,asitwassonearher.

           ‘Good,’saidmyaunt.
