‘Andthen,’saidMr.Micawber,whowaspresent,‘IhavenodoubtIshall,pleaseHeaven,begintobebeforehandwiththeworld,andtoliveinaperfectlynewmanner,if—inshort,ifanythingturnsup.’
Bywayofgoinginforanythingthatmightbeonthecards,IcalltomindthatMr.Micawber,aboutthistime,composedapetitiontotheHouseofCommons,prayingforanalterationinthelawofimprisonmentfordebt.Isetdownthisremembrancehere,becauseitisaninstancetomyselfofthemannerinwhichIfittedmyoldbookstomyalteredlife,andmadestoriesformyself,outofthestreets,andoutofmenandwomen;andhowsomemainpointsinthecharacterIshallunconsciouslydevelop,Isuppose,inwritingmylife,weregraduallyformingallthiswhile.
