           BYandbyitwasgetting-uptime.SoIcomedowntheladderandstartedfordown-stairs;butasIcometothegirls’roomthedoorwasopen,andIseeMaryJanesettingbyheroldhairtrunk,whichwasopenandshe’dbeenpackingthingsinitgettingreadytogotoEngland.Butshehadstoppednowwithafoldedgowninherlap,andhadherfaceinherhands,crying.Ifeltawfulbadtoseeit;ofcourseanybodywould.Iwentinthereandsays:

           "MissMaryJane,youcan’ta-beartoseepeopleintrouble,andIcan’tmostalways.Tellmeaboutit."
