           THEYswarmeduptowardsSherburn’shouse,a-whoopingandraginglikeInjuns,andeverythinghadtoclearthewayorgetrunoverandtrompedtomush,anditwasawfultosee.Childrenwasheelingitaheadofthemob,screamingandtryingtogetoutoftheway;andeverywindowalongtheroadwasfullofwomen’sheads,andtherewasniggerboysineverytree,andbucksandwencheslookingovereveryfence;andassoonasthemobwouldgetnearlytothemtheywouldbreakandskaddlebackoutofreach.Lotsofthewomenandgirlswascryingandtakingon,scaredmosttodeath.

           TheyswarmedupinfrontofSherburn’spalingsasthickastheycouldjamtogether,andyoucouldn’thearyourselfthinkforthenoise.Itwasalittletwenty-footyard.Somesungout"Teardownthefence!teardownthefence!"Thentherewasaracketofrippingandtearingandsmashing,anddownshegoes,andthefrontwallofthecrowdbeginstorollinlikeawave.
