SoMartinwentonintoathoroughstudyofevolution,masteringmoreandmorethesubjecthimself,andbeingconvincedbythecorroborativetestimonyofathousandindependentwriters. Themorehestudied,themorevistashecaughtoffieldsofknowledgeyetunexplored,andtheregretthatdayswereonlytwenty-fourhourslongbecameachroniccomplaintwithhim.
Oneday,becausethedaysweresoshort,hedecidedtogiveupalgebraandgeometry. Trigonometryhehadnotevenattempted. Thenhecutchemistryfromhisstudy-list,retainingonlyphysics.
