Bythistime,CowperwoodhadwrittenAileenundernocircumstancestotrytoseehim,ashewouldbeoutbythetenth,andthateitherthatday,orshortlyafter,theywouldmeet.Asheknew,shewantedgreatlytoseehim,buthehadreasontobelieveshewasundersurveillancebydetectivesemployedbyherfather.
