           Themoststrikingfeatureswereratherdeep-recesseddoorwaysunderwide,low,slightlyfloriatedarches,andthreeprojectingwindowsofrichform,oneonthesecondfloorofFrank’shouse,twoonthefacadeofhisfather’s.Thereweresixgablesshowingonthefrontofthetwohouses,twoonFrank’sandfouronhisfather’s.Inthefrontofeachhouseonthegroundfloorwasarecessedwindowunconnectedwiththerecesseddoorways,formedbysettingtheinnerexternalwallbackfromtheouterfaceofthebuilding.Thiswindowlookedoutthroughanarchedopeningtothestreet,andwasprotectedbyadwarfparapetorbalustrade.Itwaspossibletosetpottedvinesandflowersthere,whichwaslaterdone,givingapleasantsenseofgreeneryfromthestreet,andtoplaceafewchairsthere,whichwerereachedviaheavilybarredFrenchcasements.

           Onthegroundfloorofeachhousewasplacedaconservatoryofflowers,facingeachother,andintheyard,whichwasjointlyused,apoolofwhitemarbleeightfeetindiameter,withamarbleCupiduponwhichjetsofwaterplayed.Theyardwhichwasenclosedbyahighbutpiercedwallofgreen-graybrick,especiallyburntforthepurposethesamecolorasthegraniteofthehouse,andsurmountedbyawhitemarblecopingwhichwassowntograssandhadalovely,smooth,velvetyappearance.Thetwohouses,asoriginallyplanned,wereconnectedbyalow,green-columnedpergolawhichcouldbeenclosedinglassinwinter.
