           Buthewasdisappointed. Hercriticismwasjust. Heacknowledgedthat,buthehadafeelingthathewasnotsharinghisworkwithherforthepurposeofschoolroomcorrection. Thedetailsdidnotmatter. Theycouldtakecareofthemselves. Hecouldmendthem,hecouldlearntomendthem. Outoflifehehadcapturedsomethingbigandattemptedtoimprisonitinthestory. Itwasthebigthingoutoflifehehadreadtoher,notsentence-structureandsemicolons. Hewantedhertofeelwithhimthisbigthingthatwashis,thathehadseenwithhisowneyes,grappledwithhisownbrain,andplacedthereonthepagewithhisownhandsinprintedwords. Well,hehadfailed,washissecretdecision. Perhapstheeditorswereright. Hehadfeltthebigthing,buthehadfailedtotransmuteit. Heconcealedhisdisappointment,andjoinedsoeasilywithherinhercriticismthatshedidnotrealizethatdeepdowninhimwasrunningastrongundercurrentofdisagreement.
