Oneday,whenhehadanappointmentwithaduchess,heendeavoredeventoborrowitofAthos.Athos,withoutsayinganything,emptiedhispockets,gottogetherallhisjewels,purses,aiguillettes,andgoldchains,andofferedthemalltoPorthos;butastothesword,hesaiditwassealedtoitsplaceandshouldneverquitituntilitsmastershouldhimselfquithislodgings.
