ThismessagefrightenedMarillawholesomely.ShereadAnne’sdeathwarrantbyconsumptioninitunlessitwasscrupulouslyobeyed.Asaresult,Annehadthegoldensummerofherlifeasfarasfreedomandfrolicwent.Shewalked,rowed,berried,anddreamedtoherheart’scontent;andwhenSeptembercameshewasbright-eyedandalert,withastepthatwouldhavesatisfiedtheSpencervaledoctorandaheartfullofambitionandzestoncemore.
