           “Soyou’vecometoseemeatlast,youAnne-girl,”shesaid.“Mercy,child,howyouhavegrown!You’retallerthanIam,Ideclare.Andyou’reeversomuchbetterlookingthanyouusedtobe,too.ButIdaresayyouknowthatwithoutbeingtold.”

           “IndeedIdidn’t,”saidAnneradiantly.“IknowI’mnotsofreckledasIusedtobe,soI’vemuchtobethankfulfor,butIreallyhadn’tdaredtohopetherewasanyotherimprovement.I’msogladyouthinkthereis,MissBarry.”MissBarry’shousewasfurnishedwith“greatmagnificence,”asAnnetoldMarillaafterward.ThetwolittlecountrygirlswereratherabashedbythesplendoroftheparlorwhereMissBarryleftthemwhenshewenttoseeaboutdinner.

           “Isn’titjustlikeapalace?”whisperedDiana.
