Uponthewhole,thebehaviouroftheseanimalswassoorderlyandrational,soacuteandjudicious,thatIatlastconcludedtheymustneedsbemagicians,whohadthusmetamorphosedthemselvesuponsomedesign,andseeingastrangerintheway,resolvedtodivertthemselveswithhim;or,perhaps,werereallyamazedatthesightofamansoverydifferentinhabit,feature,andcomplexion,fromthosewhomightprobablyliveinsoremoteaclimate.Uponthestrengthofthisreasoning,Iventuredtoaddresstheminthefollowingmanner:"Gentlemen,ifyoubeconjurers,asIhavegoodcausetobelieve,youcanunderstandmylanguage;thereforeImakeboldtoletyourworshipsknowthatIamapoordistressedEnglishman,drivenbyhismisfortunesuponyourcoast;andIentreatoneofyoutoletmerideuponhisback,asifhewerearealhorse,tosomehouseorvillagewhereIcanberelieved.Inreturnofwhichfavour,Iwillmakeyouapresentofthisknifeandbracelet,"takingthemoutofmypocket.
