Mostofthem,andespeciallythosewhodealintheastronomicalpart,havegreatfaithinjudicialastrology,althoughtheyareashamedtoownitpublicly.ButwhatIchieflyadmired,andthoughtaltogetherunaccountable,wasthestrongdispositionIobservedinthemtowardsnewsandpolitics,perpetuallyinquiringintopublicaffairs,givingtheirjudgmentsinmattersofstate,andpassionatelydisputingeveryinchofapartyopinion.IhaveindeedobservedthesamedispositionamongmostofthemathematiciansIhaveknowninEurope,althoughIcouldneverdiscovertheleastanalogybetweenthetwosciences;unlessthosepeoplesuppose,thatbecausethesmallestcirclehasasmanydegreesasthelargest,thereforetheregulationandmanagementoftheworldrequirenomoreabilitiesthanthehandlingandturningofaglobe;butIrathertakethisqualitytospringfromaverycommoninfirmityofhumannature,incliningustobemostcuriousandconceitedinmatterswherewehaveleastconcern,andforwhichweareleastadaptedbystudyornature.
