           ButthegreatestdangerIeverunderwentinthatkingdom,wasfromamonkey,whobelongedtooneoftheclerksofthekitchen.Glumdalclitchhadlockedmeupinhercloset,whileshewentsomewhereuponbusiness,oravisit.Theweatherbeingverywarm,thecloset-windowwasleftopen,aswellasthewindowsandthedoorofmybiggerbox,inwhichIusuallylived,becauseofitslargenessandconveniency.AsIsatquietlymeditatingatmytable,Iheardsomethingbounceinatthecloset-window,andskipaboutfromonesidetotheother:whereat,althoughIwasmuchalarmed,yetIventuredtolookout,butnotstirringfrommyseat;andthenIsawthisfrolicsomeanimalfriskingandleapingupanddown,tillatlasthecametomybox,whichheseemedtoviewwithgreatpleasureandcuriosity,peepinginatthedoorandeverywindow.Iretreatedtothefarthercornerofmyroom;orbox;butthemonkeylookinginateveryside,putmeinsuchafright,thatIwantedpresenceofmindtoconcealmyselfunderthebed,asImighteasilyhavedone.Aftersometimespentinpeeping,grinning,andchattering,heatlastespiedme;andreachingoneofhispawsinatthedoor,asacatdoeswhensheplayswithamouse,althoughIoftenshiftedplacetoavoidhim,heatlengthseizedthelappetofmycoat(whichbeingmadeofthatcountrysilk,wasverythickandstrong),anddraggedmeout.
