           Racheldidnotreply.

           Rachelappearedasonedreadfullytroubled,andatlastbegantocry.“Please,ma’am,onthedayoftheMaypoleIhadnonetowear,andIseedyoursonthetable,andIthoughtIwouldborrow’em.Ididnotmeantohurt’ematall,butoneofthemgotlost.Somebodygavemesomemoneytobuyanotherpairforyou,butIhavenotbeenabletogoanywheretoget’em.”
