Inthemorningwehadbreakfastandwereatworkbydaylight.Ifoundalightkedgeanchorinthefore-hold,wheresuchthingswerekept;andwithadealofexertiongotitondeckandintotheboat.Withalongrunning-linecoileddowninthestem,Irowedwelloutintoourlittlecoveanddroppedtheanchorintothewater.Therewasnowind,thetidewashigh,andtheschoonerfloated.Castingofftheshore-lines,Ikedgedheroutbymainstrength(thewindlassbeingbroken),tillsherodenearlyupanddowntothesmallanchor—toosmalltoholdherinanybreeze.SoIloweredthebigstarboardanchor,givingplentyofslack;andbyafternoonIwasatworkonthewindlass.
