Ilookedonbothsidesforaproperplacetogettoshore,forIwasnotwillingtobedriventoohighuptheriver,hopingintimetoseesomeshipatsea,andthereforeresolvedtoplacemyselfasnearthecoastasIcould.
AtlengthIspiedalittlecoveontherightshoreofthecreek,towhich,withgreatpainanddifficulty,Iguidedmyraft,andatlastgotsonear,asthat,reachinggroundwithmyoar,Icouldthrustherdirectlyin; buthereIhadliketohavedippedallmycargointheseaagain; forthatshorelyingprettysteep,thatistosay,sloping,therewasnoplacetolandbutwhereoneendofmyfloat,ifitrunonshore,wouldliesohighandtheothersinklower,asbefore,thatitwouldendangermycargoagain. AllthatIcoulddowastowaittillthetidewasatthehighest,keepingtheraftwithmyoarlikeananchortoholdthesideofitfasttotheshore,nearaflatpieceofground,whichIexpectedthewaterwouldflowover; andsoitdid.
