           Uponthisthecaptainpretendedtohavenopowerwithoutme; butaftersomedifficulty,andaftertheirsolemnpromisesofamendment,theyweretakenonboard,andweresometimeaftersoundlywhippedandpickled,afterwhichtheyprovedveryhonestandquietfellows. 

           Sometimeafterthistheboatwasorderedonshore,thetidebeingup,withthethingspromisedtothemen,towhichthecaptain,atmyintercession,causedtheirchestsandclothestobeadded,whichtheytook,andwereverythankfulfor. Ialsoencouragedthembytellingthemthatifitlayinmywaytosendanyvesseltotakethemin,Iwouldnotforgetthem. 

           WhenItookleaveofthisisland,Icarriedonboard,forrelics,thegreatgoat-skincapIhadmade,myumbrella,andmyparrot; alsoIforgotnottotakethemoneyIformerlymentioned,whichhadlainmesolonguselessthatitwasgrownrustyortarnished,andcouldhardly; asalsothemoneyIfoundinthewreckoftheSpanishship. 

           AndthusIlefttheisland,the19thofDecember,asIfoundbytheship’saccount,intheyear1686,afterIhadbeenuponiteightandtwentyyears,twomonths,andnineteendays, beingdeliveredfromthissecondcaptivitythesamedayofthemonththatIfirstmademyescapeinthebarco-longo,fromamongtheMoorsofSallee.
