           ThentoseehowlikeakingIdined,too,allalone,attendedbymyservants. Poll,asifhehadbeenmyfavorite,wastheonlypersonpermittedtotalktome. Mydog,whowasnowgrownveryoldandcrazy,andhadfoundnospeciestomultiplyhiskindupon,satalwaysatmyrighthand,andtwocats,oneononesideandtable,andoneontheother,expectingnowandthenabitformmyhand,asamarkofspecialfavor. 

           ButthesewerenotthetwocatswhichIbroughtonshoreatfirst,fortheywerebothofthemdead,andhadbeeninterrednearmyhabitation,bymyownhand. ButoneofthemhavingmultipliedbyIknownotwhatkindofcreature,theseweretwowhichIhadpreservedtame,whereastherestrunwildinthewoods,andbecameindeedtroublesometomeatlast; fortheywouldoftencomeintomyhouse,andplundermetoo,tillatlastIwasobligedtoshootthem,anddidkillagreatmany;atlengththeyleftme. Withthisattendance,andinthisplentifulmanner,Ilived;neithercouldIbesaidtowantanythingbutsociety;andofthatinsometimeafterthis,Iwasliketohavetoomuch.
