MybeardIhadoncesufferedtogrowtillitwasaboutaquarterofayardlong; butasIhadbothscissorsandrazorssufficient,Ihadcutitprettyshort,exceptwhatgrewonmyupperlip,whichIhadtrimmedintoalargepairofMahometanwhiskers,suchasIhadseenwornbysomeTurkswhomIsawatSallee; fortheMoorsdidnotwearsuch,thoughtheTurksdid. OfthesemustachiosorwhiskersIwillnotsaytheywerelongenoughtohangmyhatuponthem,buttheywereofalengthandshapemonstrousenough,andsuchas,inEngland,wouldhavepassedforfrightful.
Butallthisisby-the-bye; for,astomyfigure,Ihadsofewtoobserveme,thatitwasofnomannerofconsequence;soIsaynomoretothatpart. InthiskindoffigureIwentmynewjourney,andwasoutfiveorsixdays. Itravelledfirstalongthesea-shore,directlytotheplacewhereIfirstbroughtmyboattoananchor,togetupontherocks. Andhavingnoboatflowtotakecareof,Iwentovertheland,anearerway,tothesameheightthatIwasuponbefore; when,lookingforwardtothepointoftherockswhichlayout,andwhichIwasobligedtodoublewithmyboat,asissaidabove,Iwassurprisedtoseetheseaallsmoothandquiet,norippling,nomotion,nocurrent,anymoretherethaninanyotherplaces.
