           "Ah!"saidMilady,listeninginherturntothenoiseofFelton’ssteps,whichwithdrewinadirectionoppositetothoseofLorddeWinter;"atlengthyouaremine!"

           IntheeveningLorddeWinteraccompaniedthesupper.

           "Sir,"saidMilady,"isyourpresenceanindispensableaccessoryofmycaptivity?Couldyounotsparemetheincreaseoftorturewhichyourvisitscauseme?"

           "How,dearsister!"saidLorddeWinter.
