Andthisfeelinghadbeenmorepainfullyperceivedbyyoungd’Artagnan—forsowastheDonQuixoteofthissecondRosinantenamed—fromhisnotbeingabletoconcealfromhimselftheridiculousappearancethatsuchasteedgavehim,goodhorsemanashewas.Hehadsigheddeeply,therefore,whenacceptingthegiftoftheponyfromM.d’Artagnantheelder.Hewasnotignorantthatsuchabeastwasworthatleasttwentylivres;andthewordswhichhadaccompaniedthepresentwereaboveallprice.
