Porthossawnothinginallthisbutalovemeeting,givenbyaladytoacavalier,orbyacavaliertoalady,whichhadbeendisturbedbythepresenceofd’Artagnanandhisyellowhorse.
Aramissaidthatasthesesortsofaffairsweremysterious,itwasbetternottofathomthem.
Theyunderstood,then,fromthefewwordswhichescapedfromd’Artagnan,whataffairwasinhand,andastheythoughtthatovertakinghisman,orlosingsightofhim,d’Artagnanwouldreturntohisrooms,theykeptontheirway.
Whentheyenteredd’Artagnan’schamber,itwasempty;thelandlord,dreadingtheconsequencesoftheencounterwhichwasdoubtlessabouttotakeplacebetweentheyoungmanandthestranger,had,consistentwiththecharacterhehadgivenhimself,judgeditprudenttodecamp.
