Besides,itmightbesupposedthatinallprobabilityeithertheconvictsknewofthereturnofthesettlerstoGraniteHouse,byhavingseenthempassontheroadfromthecorral,or,afterthedevastationoftheplateau,theyhadpenetratedintoJacamarWood,followingthecourseoftheMercy,andwerethusignorantoftheirreturn.
