Thesoutherncoastoftheislandstillremainedtobeexplored.Nowshouldtheyundertakeitimmediately,anddevotethisdaytoit?
Thiswasnotincludedintheirfirstplan.Infact,whentheboatwasabandonedatthesourcesoftheMercy,ithadbeenagreedthatafterhavingsurveyedthewestcoast,theyshouldgobacktoit,andreturntoGraniteHousebytheMercy.Hardingthenthoughtthatthewesterncoastwouldhaveofferedrefuge,eithertoashipindistress,ortoavesselinherregularcourse;butnow,ashesawthatthiscoastpresentednogoodanchorage,hewishedtoseekonthesouthwhattheyhadnotbeenabletofindonthewest.
