           Arrivedatthefootofthehill,Pencroft,Spilett,andHerbertclimbeditinafewminutes,andgazedanxiouslyroundthehorizon.

           Theywereonanislet,whichdidnotmeasuremorethansixmilesincircumference,itsshapenotmuchborderedbycapesorpromontories,baysorcreeks,beingalengthenedoval.Allaround,thelonelyseaextendedtothelimitsofthehorizon.Nolandnorevenasailwasinsight.
