           PencroftandHerbertpenetratedquitefarinamongtherocks,bysandypassagesinwhichlightwasnotwanting,foritenteredthroughtheopeningswhichwereleftbetweentheblocks,ofwhichsomewereonlysustainedbyamiracleofequilibrium;butwiththelightcamealsoairaregularcorridor-galeandwiththewindthesharpcoldfromtheexterior.However,thesailorthoughtthatbystopping-upsomeoftheopeningswithamixtureofstonesandsand,theChimneyscouldberenderedhabitable.
