           Theyreckonedthatitwouldbeabouteightorninemilestogothere,andasmuchtoreturn,sothatthewholeofthedaywouldbeoccupied.Asanunknownpartoftheislandwasabouttobeexplored,thewholecolonytookpartintheexpedition.Accordingly,onthe5thofJuly,atsixo’clockinthemorning,whendayhadscarcelybroken,CyrusHarding,GideonSpilett,Herbert,Neb,andPencroft,armedwithspears,snares,bowsandarrows,andprovidedwithprovisions,leftGraniteHouse,precededbyTop,whoboundedbeforethem.
