           Theypulledintoasidestreet,thenanother,thenturnedandtwistedfromonenarrowstreettoanotheruntilScarlettcompletelylostherbearingsandtheroaringoftheflamesdiedbehindthem.StillRhettdidnotspeak.Heonlylaidonthewhipwithregularity.Theredglowintheskywasfadingnowandtheroadbecamesodark,sofrightening,Scarlettwouldhavewelcomedwords,anywordsfromhim,evenjeering,insultingwords,wordsthatcut.Buthedidnotspeak.

           FinallyRhettturnedthehorseatrightanglesandafterawhiletheywereonawider,smootherroad.
