Insummers,theCountyaveragedabarbecueandballnearlyeveryweek,buttothered-hairedTarletonswiththeirenormouscapacityforenjoyingthemselves,eachbarbecueandeachballwasasexcitingasifitwerethefirsttheyhadeverattended.Theywereapretty,buxomquartette,socrammedintothecarriagethattheirhoopsandflouncesoverlappedandtheirparasolsnudgedandbumpedtogetherabovetheirwideleghornsunhats,crownedwithrosesanddanglingwithblackvelvetchinribbons.Allshadesofredhairwererepresentedbeneaththesehats,Hetty’splainredhair,Camilla’sstrawberryblonde,Randa’scopperyauburnandsmallBetsy’scarrottop.
